The KDS is a humorous self-awareness test about entitlement, intervention, and unnecessary escalation. It describes behavior, not identity, and is not a medical or psychological diagnosis.

The 20-question KDS test

  1. Have you ever asked to speak to a manager because an employee couldn’t resolve your problem?
  2. If a rule doesn’t make sense to you, do you sometimes believe an exception should be made?
  3. Do you point out when someone is parked incorrectly even when it doesn’t affect you?
  4. Have you corrected a stranger’s behavior because you thought someone needed to say something?
  5. If you receive poor service, do you usually make sure someone in authority hears about it?
  6. Have you continued arguing after an employee told you they didn’t have the authority to change something?
  7. Do you believe businesses should occasionally make exceptions for good or longtime customers?
  8. If a neighbor is doing something you dislike, are you likely to confront them?
  9. Have you contacted an HOA, landlord, management, security, or another authority about someone’s behavior?
  10. When someone tells you, “That’s the policy,” do you want to know who has the authority to override it?
  11. Have you left a negative online review while you were still angry about what happened?
  12. Do you sometimes give strangers advice they didn’t ask for because you believe it will help them?
  13. If someone is breaking a minor rule, does it bother you even when nobody is being harmed?
  14. Have you ever reminded a business how much money you spend there during a disagreement?
  15. When you believe you’re right, is it difficult to walk away from an argument?
  16. Have you called or considered calling police or security over a disagreement where nobody was in immediate danger?
  17. Do you sometimes think people are too sensitive when they’re corrected?
  18. After a confrontation, do you usually believe the other person caused the situation?
  19. Have friends or family ever told you that you were making too big a deal out of something?
  20. Have you later realized you were wrong and apologized?
